Bonsai
Duration
03:35
Venue
Tai Kwun F-Hall Studio
Bonsai is a 3-minute site-specific projection experience that explores the coexistence of nature and human civilization within our ever-evolving urban environments.
Spontaneous vegetation, comprising plants that autonomously flourish without human intervention, plays a pivotal role in urban ecosystems. Inspired by their forms, behaviors, and tenacity, this project abstracts shapes from wild plant species and reimagines the urban landscape as a dynamic and interconnected ecosystem.
Installed on the exterior wall of F-Hall Studio, the project captures dynamic growth patterns of these botanical entities on urban structures and invites viewers to engage with the interplay between urban environment, nature, and humanity.

Leslie Tsui Wing Ki (b. Hong Kong) is an experimental animation artist based in Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong in 2021.
Her practice centers on digitally hand-drawn animation and animated installations. Attentive to pockets of nature embedded in the city, she employs animation as an instrument of observation—mapping nature-based experience in urban space, its restorative capacities, and the shifting psychological relation between humans and the natural world.
